Lead Hazard Abatement Program

Project Home has teamed up with the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to offer lead hazard abatement services as part of a national effort to reduce the exposure of children of low-and moderate-income families with young children to the hazards of lead paint. It has been shown that continued lead exposure to young children might result in severe health problems including learning
disabilities and behavior problems.
Our Lead Hazard Reduction Programs are designed to provide financial assistance to control the hazards of lead-based paint. Residential units will be tested for the presence of lead-based paint and a lead risk assessment completed.
- Both owner-occupied and rental properties are eligible
- Children under age 6 living in the unit must be tested for elevated blood lead levels
- Hazard control activities will be determined by State certified risk assessors and State of Wisconsin certified contractors will perform the work
- All dwelling units receiving services are required to meet federal lead dust clearance standards
Eligibility
- Owner-occupied houses must be occupied by families at or below 80% of the county median income (CMI). There must be a child under age six in the household or a child under age six must spend a substantial amount of time in the household.
- Property is in Dane County or Green County.
- At least 50% of units in rental properties must be occupied or made available to be occupied by tenants whose incomes do not exceed 50% of CMI with the remainder of the units at or below 80% CMI.
