Home Maintenance Classes

A great resource for homeowners - Project Home's home maintenance classes are free and open to the public. Our goal is to provide you with information about maintaining your home, answer your questions and help you be more informed when hiring a contractor.  Classes are taught by Project Home staff and other industry professionals.

In order to reach more people, the 2017 class series is moving to area public libraries!  Classes will be offered in Fitchburg and Sun Prairie.  Please check our website for updates.

Wed. Jan. 25 - Comfort & Energy Saving Strategies - (Sun Prairie Public Library – 6:30-8pm) - Identify the 3 most common culprits of energy loss. Understand how air sealing and insulating need to work together to improve the energy performance and comfort of your home. Learn about simple steps you can take that have proven to be cost effective energy upgrades.

Mon. Feb. 6 (7-8pm on WORT's Access Hour) - Home Improvements: Common Unintended Consequences and How to Avoid Them -- (This educational piece is part of a RADIO SHOW on WORT {89.9FM or www.wortfm.org}  - Join Project Home for the Access Hour as BPI Certified Building Analyst, Adam Weisse and Certified Remodeler, Bob Weirough (both Project Home employees) discuss how most remodeling projects effect more than just the space you are improving. Proper ventilation, appliance venting and potential comfort changes are often overlooked.  Learn how to avoid these, and other, common pitfalls.  

Thu. March 9 - Basic Household Plumbing – (Fitchburg Public Library – 6:30-8pm) - Ever had problems replacing a toilet, sink or faucet? Learn the basics, the importance of the right tools and things to look out for. Also receive info on how to deal with drain problems and maintain your drainage system.

Thu.  April 20 - Basic Home Maintenance (Spring) - (Fitchburg Public Library -- 6:30-8pm) - Unfortunately we have to cancel the class for tonight - (4/20/17).  We will work with the Fitchburg Library to reschedule as soon as possible.  Thank you for your understanding.  Once the snow has melted and Spring has sprung - it's not just Spring cleaning time...it's Spring home maintenance time! At this class we will discuss things you need to check on, each year, in order to keep your home safe and healthy. If you stay on top of these maintenance items, it will help you avoid problems and costly repairs down the road.

Wed.  May 31 - All Things Painting: Tips from a Pro - (Sun Prairie Public Library -- 6:30-8pm) - Professional painter and longtime Paint-a-thon volunteer, Eric Welch, will share his expertise with you.  Tips, techniques, safety set-up and precautions, advice about painting products and supplies (both interior and exterior) -- get the answers to all your painting questions and enjoy some demo and hands-on time!  For more about Eric visit his website: www.ericwelchpainting.com/

Thu.  June 29 - Home Maintenance & Energy Saving Tips  - (Fitchburg Public Library -- 6:30-8pm) - *This is a replacement for the class we had to cancel on 4/20/17.  Summer is a great time to look for and tackle some basic home maintenance items.  At this class we will discuss things you need to check on, each year, in order to keep your home protected, safe and healthy. If you stay on top of these maintenance items, it will help you avoid problems and costly repairs down the road.  We'll also share cost effective ways to save energy year-round.
