Hammer with a Heart Program

2013 Hammer with a Heart --Our 12th anniversary will be May 4.
Hammer with a Heart is gearing up for a big year in 2013 – we will reach 1 million dollars in home repairs since the program began! And, as Kathy is calling it, it’s “The Year of the Roof.”
With so many roofs in desperate need of repair or replacement, it is vital that we find more sponsors and skilled roofing volunteers for Hammer with a Heart in 2013!
Over the last 12 years, over one thousand skilled and community volunteers have helped 90 families in 27 communities. Volunteers have alleviated these families' worries about critical repairs needed on thier homes.
Each family chosen for Hammer with a Heart is low-income, lives in Dane County, and needs significant repairs to their home that typically impact their health, safety and comfort.
Each Hammer house has two crews of volunteers who work together: a Skilled Crew Leader and skilled crew along with a Community Volunteer Leader and community volunteers.
Skilled projects include items like:
*Roofing, siding, wheelchair ramps, doors, windows, bathrooms, hot water heaters, and tree removal.
The Community Volunteer Leaders coordinate basic safety measures like:
* smoke detectors, furnace filters, gutter cleaning
And basic home maintenance like:
* window cleaning, decluttering, yard work, painting
